The Theatre Instagram Accounts You NEED to Follow!

Blog Post Banners.png

Social Media seems to be the end all, be all these days. Certainly it is a massive tool to collect information, see audition postings, and just learn about the theatre industry in its rapidly changing state.

Now, there are so many instagram accounts all over the place. Some are run by personal pages, some are companies or organizations, some are a mix. There seems to be a never-ending pool of accounts on Instagram that double in size daily. Ok, ok, I might be exaggerating just a bit, but there sure are A LOT.

Over the past few months, I have found certain accounts to be more helpful than others in aiding me to further grow my knowledge of the industry, equity, inclusion and diversity conversations, and life skills. These accounts have helped me as an artist and a human, and I hope they can help you too!

@rocktheaudition

This account is all about rocking that audition! It is run by the wonderful, crazy, super knowledgeable Sheri Sanders. Guys, I cannot begin to express what it feels like to watch her videos or live streams through my screen. She CARES so much about everything from inclusion of the BIPOC community, to really unlocking her students inner voice and style to create INCREDIBLE videos.

Even just scrolling through her previous posts you can gain so much knowledge. Also, on her page she has incredible opportunities to really learn how to sing pop music on video by providing master classes and inside looks into workshops she has done. If you KNOW you can use work on your pop music style and want to unleash something amazing inside of you, this is the account to follow!

@sethrudetsky

 Seth Rudetsky is the Musical Theatre Guru of the CENTURY! I’m not quite sure how one person can have THAT much history, random facts, AND talent all lobbed into one brain. Seriously, if you want to know anything about the industry, this is the account to follow.

Also, Seth and his wonderful husband, James currently are hosting and producing ZOOM shows called Stars in the House. These shows consist of readings, interviews and exclusive performances by some of Broadway's best! You truly do not want to miss out on this account!

@theensemblist

This organization is all about the ensemble! Recently, they have been using their platform to bolster BIPOC voices in the Broadway community. Now, a lot of The Enseblist’s material is on their website, BUT if you want to see super cool photos of Broadway ensemble members dancing in the streets of NYC, or statistics on the Broadway communities lifestyle during the Pandemic, this is the place!

Along with these super cool photos and stats, you can get notifications of their new installments of their podcast series on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or at BPN.fm. Podcasts, statistics, AND super cool photos? You can’t go wrong!

@thegrowingstudio

The Growing Studio is the largest musical theatre studio in the WORLD! Enough said.

But seriously though, their instagram has a new series exclusively on their instagram called “Take Ten: A Ten Minute Catch Up with Industry Leading Professionals” and it is glorious. Want to know what some of the best of the best are doing while Broadway is shut down? This is the place! Along with this, you can learn all about their past, what their future projects are and what they are doing to stay motivated!

Along with this, you can learn all about upcoming virtual classes, interviews, organizational scholarships and more! This account is one of the best ways to stay connected to those Broadway peeps during this time and beyond!

@hashtagbooked

Black owned and operated, Hashtag Booked is using their platform to amplify Black voices, while providing some really engaging content. This organization is all about providing tips to book that gig while having fun and engaging with the theatre community in a way that promotes positivity and growth, not competition.

They have memes, remixes, tips and tricks of the biz and a wonderful platform supporting the BIPOC community in our industry and beyond. Check them out to learn, feel inspired, and get a good laugh.

@maestramusicorg

Women of the industry! This is for us! Maestra Music is all about creating safe spaces for women to learn, network and ultimately be seen as equals in the theatre industry. While this account does not provide too many opportunities to learn on their instagram, it does provide other valuable experiences.

Everytime I view this profile, I feel encouraged and blessed to be a woman in the industry and come out feeling validated in my importance to a community long regarded as a male driven industry. Along with this, during COVID-19, they are providing some really great, innovative images of how people are gathering to do what they love while being conscious of the current pandemic. Empowerment, conscientiousness, gratitude and boundless learning opportunities is what this account provides.

With these accounts, you can discover even more about what the industry is doing to stay alive during this crisis and beyond! We all need to do our part to ensure that our careers are stable when Broadway, as well as regional theatre, returns. Learning, listening, advocating and growing are the foundation of our industry moving forward.
